There are a huge amount of variants in a home theatre design.  Lighting conditions and room acoustics are possibily the bigest factors because as a budget allows for a greater scope of equipment, the equipment may not be seen in isolation, sometimes more budget spent on environmental conditions rather than the audio visual spec will make for a better overall outcome.  So when you are next talking to an audio visual retailer, wait and see how long it takes for them to consider the room conditions, usually they attempt to just tell you to buy a more expensive product and that it will over come poor acoustic conditions.  If that happens you can suggest they might also know how to unrefelect a mirror.  An experienced installer will provide you with the best balance of performance and price.  


   

We almost always need to work with the builder, cabinet maker, architect / designer, electrician (if we are not doing the electricals) and decorators as you can see in the image above the speakers on the wall are painted to blend in with the wall colour.

In todays world of the information age, there are many choices.  This impacts your home theatre because there are so many different "boxes" to control.  When you are talking to professional audio visual systems suppliers and installers, one very important question that is mostly over looked, is how do I control these "boxes".  In general you wont find the retailer type outlets offer them as it takes a great deal of experience and some education to install and program a quality master remote control system.  Since Philips has announced their withdrawal from the master remote control market, which was usually distributed through the retail stores, they (retailers) no longer have a product to offer as the only manufacturers left are quite particular about who they allow to resell and install their products. 

So when you are working through the options when making a purchase, ask the sales person how you are going to control the system, the following is a standard list of "boxes" to be controlled:
Screen / projector, screen lifter, amplifier, digital TV / recorder, Foxtel, apple TV, Bluray, CD, iPod, wih further options for PS3, XBox, out door audio, lighting control, security camera recorder and play back.
