Security, if designed well, is not just about keeping burglars out or seeing who was where and when.

It can help save lives - in the event of fire the smoke detectors can set the security so that emergency or appropriate lighting comes on, unlocks all doors, closes fire doors, alerts the proper authorities etc. It can help save you money - when the security is armed no-one is home so it turns off all lights and any other unnecessary electric devices.

It can turn off the dedicated power point for the iron as to avert any fire risks or lock all the doors incase you forgot one - the point is that it doesn't just have to sit there on the wall waiting for a break in to be useful. If designed, planned and installed correctly it can become a very useful system integrated into the rest of the house.
