Often in our line of work we will have a project to remove / update an old system.  As you can see in the left image, the boss is toiling away to identify the old wires and connections.  The system was poorly installed originally and quite antiquated.  We removed the old security system and door control system and installed a brand new state of the art system.  You can just see in the left image the edge of the new gear, and in the right image a close up of the wires connected to the new system.  The building is one of the largest document storage facilities in Victoria and they continued to trade while we cut over from the old to the new system. 

            







They secure about 300,000 boxes of documents so as you can imagine security is a big priority.  We also took over service of the CBus system controlling the lighting and made substantial electricity savings (40%) by better programming the lighting control.  There are sensors in each isle which with some programming think about how long to put the lights on with reference to outside light and length of occupation in the isle.  The client was very proactive and forward in being energy conscious.  This attitude has paid off as now the building is operating at an optimum level of functionality and minimal energy costs.

The only issue was that in the clients words "we were the third contractor, to work on the installation, and the first to get it right".  The expense of doing the design right to start with on such a large project will pay off 10 times over as the work is carried out, because a design with expansion in mind, and thorough planning will have already allowed space for changes as they arise.
